Have you ever wished you could bottle up the scent of the holidays? I have a solution for you! This jar of Simmering Scent makes another great hostess gift, and only takes a few minutes to put together. All the ingredients can be found at your local supermarket! The base of this one is a citrus-ginger. It pairs well with the no-bake cream cheese mints, white winter sangria, and hostess gift tray.  Here’s a great tutorial on how to make potpourri.

We did a great DIY last year of a stovetop simering scent that was lovely, but I really enjoy the spicier ginger notes in this one.

Ingredients:

– dried orange slices or peels (for slices, put one layer of thin-sliced oranges on a baking sheet at 200 degrees for 3 hours)

– dried cranberries

-star anise (so pretty!)

-whole allspice

-ginger root (chop this in to chunks)

-cinnamon sticks

materials

Step 1: Layer your ingredients in an appealing manner in a clear container.

Mason jars and jars like the one shown are great. Part of the loveliness of this gift is the presentation of it- the ingredients are pretty AND functional.

Step 2: Decorate your jar with a nice ribbon, or other extras. I’m minimal in style, so I just tied a pretty ribbon that I had lying around.

Step 3: Give as a gift! How to use: simmer on the stove top.
