This weekend my niece and I scoured Pinterest, picking out the prettiest eggs that we could find. Then, we hard boiled 2 dozen eggs and had some fun with the different ideas. We came up with a bunch of ideas, and we will reveal 1 new egg design idea every day this week!

Last year, I used some black sharpies and hand-decorated a bunch of eggs with drawings. First, I blew out the eggs. By the way- blowing the egg yolks out of the egg is WAY harder than it is described. If you can get away without doing it,  I would suggest just hard-boiling them. It took me over an hour to do 12 eggs, and I thought I was going to burst at the end. However, my eggs have lasted pretty well since last year. For the patterns, I used Indian henna patterns as inspiration online, but mainly I just doodled away and then dyed the eggs in food coloring and white vinegar.

I’ve found 1 key ingredient to making great easter eggs: choose a color palette and stick with it. The simpler, the better.

Today’s Egg: Ombre Easter Egg

So today’s DIY is for ombre easter eggs.

1.) Hard-boil or blow out at least 6 (12 is better) eggs.
2.) Using whatever dye you feel like (I used the Paas tablets from the grocery store), get the water nice and dark in the color of your choice.
3.) Add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar for every cup of water that you are using.
4.) Carefully lower all of your eggs in to the dye.
5.) after a pretty short time span of your choosing (I’d recommend about 20 minutes), take out 1-2 eggs to dry.
6.) every 45 minutes to an hour, remove 1-2 more eggs
7.) As the eggs are in the water longer, you may need to leave them for longer increments of time to make them as dark as possible.

Voila! Ombre eggs!

Tomorrow, check out another DIY egg!

Here is some of the inspiration we were working with for these eggs. I love the way they look in a glass vase!!
