Lately I’ve been getting lot’s of email about people who want to repaint their bedrooms but just don’t know what colors. Today I’ll start with the color blue.

Blue is typically associated with water and sky. Although it’s known as a cold color, blue is a very strong color to use in rooms you want to feel more relaxed and concentrate. In Feng Shui, it has the attribute of calmness, bring harmony, and desire to explore. Therefore, if you wish to have a peaceful and thoughtful sleeping space or area, start by looking at blue. Watching blue objects just 5-10 minutes a day helps a person bring thoughts into order, replenish vital energy, and makes them more convincing, decisive and eloquent.

Although blue has lot of wonderful attributes related to relaxation it should be kept out of cold areas.

Now think of the shade of blue you want. Darker shades of blue promotes more intellectual thoughts and collection of energy while on the other hand lighter shades of blue promotes more of a meditating aura to it. You want to find some kind of balance between the two. Meaning you don’t need to have just one shade painted blue, by having blue bedsheets and or accessories it helps recollect your thoughts while you sleep.

Now lets take a look at this example of a darker shade of blue. As you can see, the owner has everything matched into one shade of blue. But you see how he has a few glass objects and white? In Feng shui, having  combination off both white and blue brings a sense of space and openness like sky and ocean. Glass objects help promote that by reflecting light and transparency

Now above are images of using lighter blue. In my opinion I’m not a huge fan of lighter blue colors. I would use lighter shade of blue sparingly because in the winter, you want to consider how much light gets reflected into the room and then walls. It almost looks blinding. In warmer areas where the ocean is nearby, would be fine. But, if you had this all winter long, I would get sick of it.

Balance the blue color in your room

This is something that I meant when I said find something in the middle / have a balance between shades of blue. We have the bedsheets a darker shade and then lighter blue walls with white trims. To me, sleeping on royal blue bedsheets really calms me down and I kind of just stop thinking all together. It’s very peaceful and relaxing

Keep in touch as I’ll be posting more colors throughout the week!
