It’s the time of the year, and it’s time to go to Walgreens, CVS, and Hallmark right? Well instead of buying it why not try making some? What’s more meaningful then receiving homemade cards from the young niece /nephew or grandchildren? So this year, why not sit down with your family and try making some homemade Christmas cards?

Here’s a way I make my cards, maybe I’ll finally have more time this season… I better start quickly!

Materials

  1. Glue
  2. Red, green, and white paper/construction paper ( I like construction for thickness)
  3. Scissors
  4. Imagination

Anyways, for homemade Christmas cards, think of your materials and colors. You want to make something eye catching, clean, and I suppose simplicity works the best too, so it isn’t messy.

Map out where you want certain design and words. Typically I would just write Merry Christmas on the top front and some kind of small design in the middle and a border around.

Now here’s the cool part, say I use the red as my base color card, if I paste another color like green inside it. When I cut out a design for my borders, I’ll have a really cool two tone color way. Its a great way to do letters and borders. Cutting out single letters can be a hassle that’s why I bought Alphabet hole punchers a couple seasons ago at Staples. Made it so much easier and only $15.

You can get very creative by playing around with different layering in patterns, for an example. I have a star shaped cutout, but I want a green background with white stripes. Well, first cut out some small stripes and then line up a pattern against the back of the star. Now just cover those stripes with an entire sheet of green so the inside doesn’t look like there’s just random pieces of paper there.

Another way is to print out designs for your christmas cards. You can find so many shapes and designs, you can just trace over them on paper and cut them out and arrange them into different patterns or… a tree!

In conclusion, it’s a very easy way to do your Christmas cards. If you think of any other ways to do your cards, leave a comment so we can all share tips this season.
