Kitchen Remodel Projects in the Boston Area
Arlington First Floor Remodel
This homeowner yearned for a more functional space for their 2-child family. When the home was built, it included a narrow butler’s pantry adjacent to a tiny kitchen with too many entrances. We worked with this homeowner to create a more open flow, and added a half bathroom on the first floor to avoid having to use the only bathroom in the home on the second floor.
NEDC eliminated an old butler’s pantry, expanding the footprint of the kitchen into that area. Additionally, an extra doorway from the existing stairwell to the kitchen was closed off, enabling a pantry wall to be installed. The existing mudroom was reworked to provide more of a “landing space” to hang and store items.
The overall result yielded a much more functional and efficient space that integrated better flow with more functional storage space for the growing family.
Dorchester Kitchen & Powder Room
NEDC transformed a cramped kitchen with little storage space into a cooking oasis for a two floor condo in Dorchester, MA, including a lockable back entry for private access for the owner and hanging bike storage.
Accommodations were made for the homeowners treasured cats in the design, including a custom cat-drawer pull-out with kitty door to contain the litter-box and a specialized trash adjacent to reduce clean-up.
Luxury features like a pull-out beverage cooler, as well as multiple under-counter ovens, a microwave, and double-drawer dishwashers make cooking and cleanup in the space a breeze.
A pop-up electrical outlet on the oversized island allows for baking appliances to be plugged in conveniently, and a kitchen-wide hanging storage system keeps accessories neat and tidy within the kitchen. A custom-painted backsplash designed by the owner lives behind the state-of-the-art recirculating air cleaning hood. NEDC also freshened up the adjacent powder room.
Somerville Kitchen Remodel
This client felt that the existing kitchen in their home was very generic, builder-grade, unappealing, and in a different style than what they would prefer. The remodel intended to increase the functionality of the kitchen, change the aesthetic entirely, and create a central space in the home.
The location of the half bath was swapped with the location of the pantry, and the entire kitchen was gutted. New cabinets, all new finishes, and increased storage capacity as well as specialized features like a double pull-out rack storage for spices, oils, and specialty cooking ingredients were integrated into the cabinet design.
A better work triangle was instituted in the kitchen by rearranging appliance locations for the kitchen and stove and prep areas. The island was enlarged and better lighting installed for task work. A hidden USB charging station lives within a drawer in the kitchen island as well, allowing minimal surface clutter.
Newton Kitchen Remodel
In this Newton kitchen remodel, NEDC fully gutted the kitchen and removed a small mud room in order to create a better flow between the client’s living area and kitchen. Existing closets were replaced by custom storage solutions and built-in pantry, maximizing the effectiveness of the storage space while creating a better flow in the space.
A large kitchen island replaced a wheeled solution, and high end appliances (even a steam oven!) replaced formerly basic ones. An entire visual upgrade created a warm, inviting, and open space that’s become a central space in the home.
Jamaica Plain Kitchen & Solarium Remodel
This Jamaica Plain couple purchased a very outdated and claustrophobic townhouse. NEDC transformed the home by opening up the circulation, refinishing and updating the space, and gutting the kitchen. Beautiful original brick was brought back to it’s natural exposed condition, and the solarium footprint opened up to bring light into the living and kitchen areas.
A built-in banquette was constructed in the solarium, allowing a very functional and stunning space to sit and interact with someone while cooking or hang out and enjoy a glass of wine.
The kitchen features an oversized island, and a modern mix of industrial and eclectic features like wooden drawer pulls, exposed pipe shelf supports, and natural brick. A new mudroom was created with shelving and a perching place to discard muddy boots, and a pantry was remodeled to support an active cooking family.
