Welcome to the world of transformative renovations with New England Design and Construction!

Many Boston homeowners seeking a major remodel desire to balance their aesthetic sense with sustainable values.

Today, we delve into the intricacies of a recent project, exploring key elements such as energy efficiency, sustainability, and comfort.

In the home design and remodeling industry, energy efficiency is indicated through a home’s HERS rating which we are going to define here and show why we feel this is an important factor to consider.

The Renovation Overview

NEDC has recently completed a renovation project that stands as a testament to our commitment to excellence. Strategic design adjustments have resulted in a notable enhancement of the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rating, elevating it from 83 to an impressive 59. This accomplishment not only showcases the dedication of the NEDC team but also signifies a commitment to heightened energy efficiency.

Decoding HERS Ratings

For those unacquainted with HERS ratings, or the Home Energy Rating System, it serves as a standardized measure of a home’s energy efficiency. Lower HERS ratings indicate higher efficiency. It’s not just about reducing utility bills; it’s about creating a more sustainable and environmentally friendly living space.

Sustainability and the protection of our Earth is a core value of ours here at NEDC, playing an integral role in our sustainable design approach.

Looking Ahead: Integrating HERS Ratings into Renovations

While HERS ratings are commonly associated with new constructions, NEDC is breaking new ground on the subject.  Despite not being a standard requirement for all renovations—currently only renovations of 50% or more of the house, or additions over one thousand square feet have HERS requirements—the team at NEDC believes in anticipating the future. This forward-thinking approach aims to offer clients not just renovated spaces but upgraded overall home efficiency, becoming a standard concern in their projects.

Future-Proofing Homes

By integrating energy efficiency into renovations, NEDC is future-proofing clients’ homes. As energy standards evolve and become more stringent, clients can rest assured that their homes are ahead of the curve. NEDC is not merely renovating homes; they are transforming them into sustainable living spaces that exceed current standards and contribute to a greener future.

Comfort Redefined

Moving beyond energy efficiency, NEDC prioritizes making homes more physically comfortable. Advanced systems are implemented to provide precise control over temperature and humidity. This heightened control creates a more enjoyable living environment, allowing residents to tailor their indoor climate to suit their preferences and enhancing overall comfort. Beyond temperature and humidity, NEDC renovations address the health of the home’s occupants. Systems controlling indoor air quality, including ventilation and filtration systems, contribute to a healthier living space—particularly beneficial for individuals with respiratory issues or allergies.

Conclusion: A Transformation Beyond Aesthetics

In conclusion, NEDC’s recent project showcases a comprehensive approach to renovations, emphasizing the integration of energy efficiency, sustainability, and unparalleled comfort. The team’s commitment to forward-thinking practices ensures that their projects not only meet but exceed current standards, contributing to a more sustainable and comfortable future for homeowners.

If you’re considering a renovation journey that goes beyond aesthetics, NEDC is here to guide you.

Don’t hesitate to reach out for a transformative experience that embraces sustainability and comfort in every detail.

Knowledge is indeed power, and at NEDC we are empowering homeowners to embrace a transformed and sustainable living experience.

What is Architectural Design Build?

There are two primary approaches to a major home design and remodel in Boston. While this can be made very complex as a subject, the natural creative process is fundamentally simple:

Design-Bid-Build is the process that has been introduced over the past 150 years or so whereby you as the client directly hire an architect to draft plans and design your project—to then have it bid out to multiple contractors seeking to win the bid and perform the project. This approach has been generalized as mainstream over the past decades and sold to homeowners, often creating client stress and potential loss of both client funds and time. This approach has many liabilities for the client due in no small part to the fragmented spheres of responsibilities which this system and method creates.

There is no single person or entity fully accountable to the client for the entire project’s success.

This single factor alone can create a variety of problems and stress points for the client.

By default the client is ultimately responsible for both Architect and Builder as well as the ultimate success of the project.

One can have impractical and expensive design work, impractical planning, numerous change orders, shoddy craftsmanship, and projects which are off timeline and over budget. In the end, the client can be left damaged. You or a family member or friend may have experienced this in the past. We have many clients come to us after poor experiences with this approach.

Architectural Design-Build (also Design Build) is the natural approach to creation of the built environment and has been used for thousands of years to create many of the beautiful structures of earth. Architectural Design Build is the route of choice if one desires to save on time and money, reduce stress, and eliminate a fragmented sense of project responsibility in the people working for you.

Architectural Design Build is a model that stresses single-source accountability with the creative design, planning, and remodel executed start to finish by one firm.

Architectural Design-Build in Boston is currently being turned to by professionals, families, and individuals as the cutting edge of efficiency, aesthetics, practicality, and accountability when it comes to designing and remodeling a home. This approach packages architectural design and interior design services with artisan-level building and remodeling services.

This natural synthesis makes for a simple, efficient, and accountable creative process followed by a streamlined and responsible build phase, reducing cost, time of execution, and client stress throughout.

With the Architectural Design Build approach, the client is dealing solely with one fully accountable firm.

New England Design and Construction specializes in Architectural Design Build with a specific focus on sustainable luxury homes. We are extremely mindful of environmental impact and passionate about project efficiency and client comfort.
