A South End Revival

Hill Craftsmen recently completed a remodel for a professional couple in Boston’s South End. They had a lovely three story townhouse that needed to be updated and refined.  There were some beautiful existing features – cherry cabinetry in the living room, and a large circular stairwell.

There were also some interesting challenges to work with; an irregular shaped kitchen, disjointed paint colors from room to room and worn and outdated fixtures and finishes in the kitchen and master bath.

Working with our Lead Designer, Fran Mackay, the clients decided they wanted something modern and elegant, which would best utilize the compact spaces of the kitchen and bath, add storage, as well as unify the color scheme throughout the house.

Fran found out which items the clients liked most in the existing spaces – favorite artwork, flooring, and exposed brick – and then selected colors which best complemented and unified these items. For the round master bathroom we removed the awkward shower stall and installed a round corner shower which worked well with the shape of the room as well as increasing the available floor

space.  Selecting modern fixtures, highlighting the baths round shape and the use of natural stones were used to create a warm and relaxing spa in what had been a gloomy and cramped bathroom.

For the kitchen we were able to match the cherry cabinetry from the adjacent living room, creating a cohesive great room effect.  To offset the very sleek cherry cabinetry were modern chrome fixtures and hardware, as well as state of the art stainless steel appliances.  We found a beautiful cream colored granite countertop with specks of cherry brown to accent the cabinets.  The overall effect is a sparkling and inviting kitchen that feels expansive beyond its narrow dimensions.

With some ingenuity we were also able to do an economical update of the finished basement, adding cabinet storage and updating finishes.

Helping to Improve the Community
– Weather N’ Heights No Match!
Despite the rainy weather and high heights Hill CraftsMen
LLC along with others were able to complete a roofing project
for Bristol Lodge, a nonprofit organization that provides
shelter and food for displaced women. The roof had been in
need of repair for some time after suffering several leaks.
The project was organized by NARI (National Association of
the Remodeling Industry) with all labor and materials being
donated. Josh Palmer, Cory Desjardin and David Supple
represented Hill CraftsMen well and were joined by several
other NARI members who helped in the rewarding project.
