Home Addition Architectural Design Portfolio

When home additions are poorly designed, the added space can feel like a new room in an old house. But when you take an architectural design-forward approach to a home addition, the entire space feels refreshed. You’re new home will feel familiar, and as though it had always been that way.

At New England Design & Construction, we approach all of our home additions and remodels using this design-forward approach. Our architects, designers, and construction team collaborate to deliver projects that our customers love, on time and on budget.

We invite you to browse the following portfolio of home addition projects to see for yourself the types of projects that we create using our Design-Build method.

Home Addition Remodel Projects in the Boston Area

Brighton Whole Home Remodel & Addition

The goal with this Brighton whole home remodel and addition was to create a master suite, as well as update the flow of the home, gut-remodel the kitchen, and update all bathrooms.

A beautiful master suite with a separate walk-in closet was created as an addition on the second story of the home. This space was designed with vaulted ceilings in the master bedroom that connect to an outdoor space that welcomes in the sunshine while screening out nearby neighbors in this densely packed area.

In addition to the master suite area, a second floor laundry room was built with an adjacent full guest bathroom. This made the client’s lives much easier, as prior to the remodel all laundry was handled in the basement of the home.

On the first floor there were many updates to the circulation of the space as a whole, as well as smaller touches like a new fireplace insert and mantle. The kitchen now captures the eye when you enter the building, drawing you back in to the major remodeling done in that space with the stunning feature island.

Somerville Two-Story Addition

We completed a two story addition for this Somerville-based family, including four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a master suite, and a few other awesome improvements like pull-out under-stair storage and a wrap-around bench in the entryway!

This stunning remodel not only increased the square footage and livable space within the home, but it also increased the overall property value.

West Roxbury Addition

As part of a whole home remodel, this client decided to add on a small amount of square footage to their living room adjacent to the kitchen in the form of a home addition. The addition also allowed for a half bath to be relocated and expanded between the family room and kitchen.

NEDC focused on opening up and increasing the circulation of space by removing a wall between the traditional family room and the addition, as well as creating a hallway between the new space and the completely remodeled kitchen. The high ceilings in the space help the home feel larger and much more airy than it had previously.

Needham Poorhouse And Garage Addition

These homeowners were looking to create a backyard oasis. We helped our clients integrate a structure that combined a one-car garage and a pool house with a patio to compliment their new in-ground pool and landscaping.

It was very important for the structure to look like it was always there, which meant that there was an emphasis on the design and materials to match the existing home.

Natick Whole Home Remodel And Addition

In this two story addition and whole home remodel, NEDC transformed a dark and cramped single family house into a large, light filled, and fully functional home. The kitchen, dining room, master bedroom, and one other room were fully remodeled and reconfigured to allow for a master suite addition, including a new exterior deck, entry, stairway, basement, and living room.

Custom storage solutions were designed to maximize the functionality of the kitchen, including special pull-out storage for the corner cabinets, a wall-inset coffee system, and cabinets under the peninsula for additional storage options.

This built-in utilized reclaimed cedar planks from the cedar closet that had been removed in demolition from the basement area. Additionally, an up-cycled clerestory window was incorporated above this storage solution. Other reclaimed items from the original home included relocated pillars in the dining area, sliding doors on tracks for the pantry, and master closet doors.
