This white sangria recipe is simply delicious, and a great festive drink to serve for parties. I was planning on giving it as a gift, except it was so delicious I realized I had downed half of it before walking out the door. If you have a nice pitcher around, it could make a good hostess gift (or a gift to yourself!). The rosemary is a nice wintry touch that takes some of the sweetness out of the grape juice. Refreshing blend!
Ingredients:
1 tart green apple
1 sweet red apple
a generous heap of fresh cranberries
some chopped rosemary
sprigs of rosemary for garnish (optional)
a cup of sugar (1/2 for drink, 1/2 for garnish)
white grape juice
club soda
white wine- I used Chardonnay but a good Pinot Grigio would work too.
(In my head, I’d also like to try taking out the sugar and using a moscato instead)
Step 1: Chop the apples and rosemary.
Bite sized pieces are good if you like to eat the fruit like I do. For a more refined appearance, you could consider making nice half-moon thin slices.
Step 2: put all your dry ingredients in a fancy serving pitcher, or in a gifting-pitcher. They have some nice glass ones on sale at TJ Maxx and Marshalls right now.
Step 3: Add the wet ingredients (the whole bottle of wine, a cup or two of grape juice to taste, and a serving of club soda)
Step 4: muddle all the ingredients gently, and stick in the fridge for an hour.
As the rosemary sits in the fridge, it’ll melt in to the sugar. The longer you leave it, the stronger the rosemary will become. If you don’t let it sit, the rosemary will be almost unapparent.
Step 5: (optional) Take a sprig of rosemary and run it gently under the faucet for a couple of seconds, and then roll it in sugar. This makes it look like snow! Very pretty but not very functional. You could also choose to give the glass a sugar rim using the same method, but I declined as the drink is naturally pretty sweet.
Step 6: Garnish and serve! Or, pack it for the road and give to your hostess.
The sangria pitcher makes a great hostess gift combined with the jar of Simmering Scent and Cream Cheese Mint DIYs, served on a pretty painted hostess tray.
